Q&A

Q. How did you get into music and at what age were you when you started writing and performing?
A. Music has always been a part of my life. From the time I was a baby and even now, my parents would always have music playing, whether it was on the stereo in our living room or in the car on the way to the store. Being surrounded by it, I started taking interest in at a very young age, even by walking around my house at two years old with a toy microphone. I started performing on stage for audiences when I was about eight or nine years old. Back then, I would always write poems. However, the poems started transforming into songs around the time I started middle school.

Q. Tell about your musical influences and the past and the present.
A. In the past, I always looked up to Martina McBride as well as Alan Jackson, for they were the artists that my parents loved. To this day, I would still consider Martina McBride to be one of my biggest role models, along with Taylor Swift. The things that both of these women have accomplished are remarkable, as well as the wonderful way that they hold themselves, and treat their fans.

Q. Can you give us some of the back story to your first single 2nd time around?
A. Second Time Around was actually based upon a personal experience that I dealt with. In a sense, writing it was a way for me to come to terms with the situation. It was at the point where I realized what I deserve.

Q. What was your recording experience like with Producer Noel Golden?
A. It was fantastic! It was such a pleasure working with Noel. He has so much experience and insight. Every aspect of recording went smoothly, and Noel produced so many good ideas to make my music the best it can be. I definitely learned a lot by working with him. Not only about music in general, but about my own identity as an artist.

Q. How do you go about writing songs, what is your process?
A. I wouldn’t say that there is necessarily a certain process that I go through every time I write a song. I could start writing a song when a line for a verse pops into my head during class, or while I’m lying in bed at night. A tune I may use for the chorus of a song could manifest in my mind whilst walking down the street. Other times the tune and words may come together. Once this happens, I grab my guitar and try to combine it all and add to it until it sounds and feels right- until I’m satisfied with the art I have created. I also tend to write songs after something significant has happened in my life. Some songs take me only an hour or so to write, while others have taken me as long as two weeks.

Q. Where do you ultimately see yourself in music
A. No matter what, I always want to have music in my life, preferably as a large part of it. Down the road, I see myself continuing to share my music with people- hopefully all around the world.
